Carer Advocacy Program
What is the program about?
The Carer Advocacy Program provides individual/family advocacy on a one-to-one basis to resolve difficult or complex matters, negotiating the complexity and bureaucracy of service systems, and concerns relating to the caring role. The service focuses on short term and goal specific issues. Carers will also be supported to develop the skills to self advocate where appropriate.

Any Carer living in the ACT
What will the advocate do?
Meet with you one-to-one to pin point what the difficulties are
- Create realistic expectations through developing an individual action plan
- Make the Carer aware of their rights and how to access any service complaint pathways
- Investigate the issue by liaising with all parties
- Establish lines of communication with all involved
- Promote the Carer’s ability to self advocate
- Negotiate to achieve a resolution

The coordinator will be able to assist you and may resolve your difficulty through information, support, referral to specialised services, or they will refer you to the advocate who will contact you directly.
