Respite Care Assistant
As part of Carers ACT programs and services to support carers within the community we operate two respite care centres. Home Away from Home Dementia Cottage, ‘The Cottage’ located at Deakin, offers low care dementia patients day and overnight care within a home-like environment. ‘Fraser House’, located at Fraser offers mature aged carers of people with a disability a chance to take a break for a few hours or up to 2 weeks. Both centres offer a very important and quality service that makes a real difference in carers lives.
Several positions have become available for suitably qualified and motivated staff to provide care and assistance to guests at both locations. We have a full time or 2 part time job-share positions at Fraser House, a part time position at The Cottage, Deakin and casual positions across both locations.
Ideally you will hold or be working toward qualifications in Aged Care or Disability. You will be calm, confident and compassionate with a genuine interest in helping others. The Cottage and Fraser House do operate 24 hours a day, so you will need to be available for weekends and shift work. All applicants must have a current senior first aid certificate and drivers licence. Travel between Deakin and Fraser with occasional travel to our main Holt premises is required.

Better Start Coordinator
Better Start is an initiative that provides early intervention services and treatment for children with disabilities. We are seeking a dynamic, highly-organised and compassionate person to coordinate and promote this truly important and interesting program. The duties include responding to all enquiries, registration of eligible families, provision of information and linking services and support.
You will use your excellent interpersonal and communication skills to explore problems and provide solutions. Strong organisation and administration skills are essential to ensure all documentation and data is kept confidentially and up-to-date. Ideally you will have previous experience in a community services role and be able to demonstrate a commitment to helping others.

Mental Health Carer Policy and Representation Officer
A vacancy has become available within the area of mental health as a Policy and Representation Officer. This critical and essential role will see you working with mental health carers to facilitate carer consultation and participation in advocacy and advice to government and the community sector. Your duties will include identifying and engaging carers, organising training, coordinating forums and events, collating information and reporting outcomes to various stakeholders.
The ideal candidate will be passionate about community and carer issues with a particular interest in mental health. You will be highly organised and able to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines. Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential as you will be required to communicate diverse views through simple policy submissions. Your high level of professionalism and interpersonal skills will assist in working with a range of stakeholders. Previous experience in the community sector andor formal qualifications in a related filed are preferred. Experience within the field of mental health will be highly regarded.
